Drought forces hospitals to buy water privately
posted on: Apr 9 2010 8:59 by Royston. Viewed 125 times. The water shortage is now so acute that some public hospitals are being forced to buy water from private tanker companies.

In other healthcenters, the Water and Sewerage Corporation of Santo Domingo (CAASD), has had to help, such as at Padre Billini hospital where dialysis machines consume large volumes of water. Eddy Henriquez, responsible for maintaining the health center, said that even before the shortage they needed help from the Caasd's tank truck, noting that the hospital can not stay dry.
The Luis E. Aybar center has also had to resort to private suppliers.
The director of the Salvador B. Gautier hospital, Emma Bodden, reported a decreased water supply, but she said they have been able to cope with shortages because they had full tanks of water before the drought started.
However, Bodden explained that she had received a warning from the water authorities, to ration the use of water as a precautionary measure because a prolonged drought could bring problems in the future.
The Robert Reid Cabral Children's Hospital has also been buying water privately to maintain hygiene and to serve the hemodialysis unit.
