The details were given this morning by the director of the Institute of Seismology of the University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Eugenio Polanco, who said the phenomenon was felt in Montecristi, Mao, Santiago, Santiago Rodriguez, Dajabon and other locations in the region .
The quake was at a depth of about 10 km and occurred at 2:20 am.
He said there have been no significant aftershocks, as this was a moderate earthquake, but the effects would have been strongly felt by local residents, mainly in Dajabón, Mao and Montecristi. However, because the tremor occurred in the middle of the night, few people realized what had happened and there was no panic.
