Electrical transformers stolen from Mount Isabel de Torres

The robberies aren’t abating, since in the last 15 days alone, several power transformers that feed the transmitters used by Puerto Plata broadcasters have disappeared as if by “magic”.
The most affected radio station has been “L’Arena 92.5 FM”, owned by local Senator Francis Vargas, whose transmitter was left without electrical power when someone stole the voltage regulator for the transformer, even though there was military surveillance in place.
This theft occurred at unspecified hours of the morning on Wednesday, as well as the theft of another electrical transformer that supplies power to a water pump.
This transformer was located on a pole at a height of about 18 feet, but was knocked down to the ground with an axe by the thieves, who seem to be part of a band that also uses vehicles to carry off the stolen equipment.
Directors of radio stations and telephone company managers who have transmitters and antennas on Mount Isabel de Torres have called for greater vigilance by the police in this area, as a group of robbers is causing economic losses amounting to several million pesos.
