Electricity production still falling

Despite protestations to the contrary by those responsible for electricity supply, black outs are still increasing.

Electricity production continues to fall to critical levels because each day there are fewer power plants connected to the system, while others are decreasing their output.

Dozens of neighborhoods in the National District and Santo Domingo province woke up on Monday without electricity, including those located on the River Ozama.

Villa Consuelo, Villa Juana and Villas Agrcolas receive less than ten hours of electricity a day, despite the 24 hours service announcements.

While people living in Villa Mara, Mara Auxiliadora, Mejoramiento Social, Lupern, Espaillat, Gualey, Los Guandules and Guachupita all complain about the poor service they receive.

At 8:00 this morning electricity production was only 119 thousand megawatts, which is 60.5% of the energy required to meet national demand.

In the last few hours plants reducing production include Barahona carbn, Sultana del Este, Itabo II, La Unidad II de la Compaa Elctrica de Puerto Plata and Monte Ro. Plants which are off-line include Haina I, Haina II, Haina IV, Haina turbogs, Puerto Plata I and II, and gas turbines at Barahona and San Pedro de Macors.

Another serious problem is that hydroelectric dams, presumably to conserve water to counter the current drought, have not increased their generation in spite of the rains in recent days and keep their production at 107.7 megawatts.
