Viewed 120 times. The presidential candidate for the Dominican Party for Change (DxC), Eduardo Estrella, stated that the sentencing of former French President Jacques Chirac should serve as example and parameter in the country, for the application of the full weight of the law against those who engage in acts of corruption, regardless of the position they occupy.
Estrella noted that Chirac was sentenced to two years in prison for embezzlement of public funds and breach of trust committed during the long period in which he was Mayor of Paris (1977-1995), and has thus become the first head of the French State be sentenced by an ordinary court. The only similar precedent is that of general Philippe Petain, who was indicted in 1945 for collaborating with the Nazi invaders.
Estrella argued that the Dominican media have been denouncing multiple cases of corruption among Government officials without response from the authorities.
