Exports up 11%
posted on: Aug 24 2010 9:47 by Royston. Viewed 310 times.The Dominican Republic's exports rose 11 % in the first half of this year, reaching a value of US$2,499.89 million compared to US$2,235.33 million in January-June 2009.
According to the report from the Export-Import Center (CEI- RD), 89 % of exports were made up of traditional products (agricultural agro-
industrial and crafts), a growth of 9.9% from the same period in 2009. However, the sale of minerals (copper, gold and silver alloys) grew 32 %. Sugar and sugar products, coffee and cocoa, rose 31.2%
The main export markets are still primarily the United States and Haiti, but the mineral exports go mainly to China, Taiwan and Pakistan.
According to the CEI- RD there is a 7.42 % growth in sales of Dominican products to the U.S. market and a 17.98 % growth in sales to neighboring countries.
Bananas are the main crop exported showing a growth of 75% , mainly to the United Kingdom, followed by organic bananas, and avocados, and also cigars, wheat flour and organic cocoa beans.
