President Leonel Fernndez today starts his  third overseas trip this year to attend the Rio Group Summit, which brings together more than 30 countries in the Caribbean and Latin American region. The summit opens tomorrow in Riviera Maya, Cancun in South East Mexico.

32 foreign ministers and 25 heads of state of the region are expected to gather at the resort.
The Dominican president will travel from the military airport of San Isidro, accompanied by a small delegation including officials of the departments of economy, energy and planning, and invited journalists.

Yesterday the foreign ministers of Latin America and the Caribbean met as part of a negotiation process to create a regional body parallel or complementary to the Organization of American States (OAS). On  Sunday representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meet to address the issue of Haiti, with the participation of eight heads of state, including Ren Prval of Haiti, Fernandez and the president of Mexico, Felipe Caldern.

Tomorrow there is a working meeting with President Caldern to host the Summit of Unity of Latin America and the Caribbean, and formal work will continue until Tuesday night.
