Viewed 9 times.President Leonel Fernandez met this afternoon with the promise made to the people of Haiti after the earthquake of January 12, 2010, and delivered a University with a capacity for 10,000 students and three buses to transport to those living in remote communities.
In a speech in French and Spanish, Fernandez expressed his satisfaction and that of the Dominican people for having made it reality this commitment and said that he hopes that the international community to carry out the promises made with the people of Haiti after the disaster of January 2010.
He said that this opening is a gesture of solidarity that reflects the sensitivity of the Dominicans to contribute to the reconstruction of Haiti.
"It is an act of love, it is an aspiration for progress and prosperity for the people of Haiti" stated Representative Dominican.
In his speech described as it was the afternoon of January 12 when occurred the u000aearthquake, who although not caused damage to infrastructures Dominican if it generated anguish and fear.
He regretted the death of 250 thousand Haitians, including thousands of students and teachers and the fact that about 80 percent of the University buildings were destroyed.
Fernandez said, however, that it has come to the time of the tragedy hope, optimism pain and anguish to joy.
Said he hoped that the new University is a center serving for teaching, research and innovation, highlighting the main wealth of Haiti is on its own people, especially in young people which only expected an opportunity to advance.
