Fernandez inaugurates new Atlantic Tourist Boulevard
posted on: Oct 27 2011 8:9 by The Reporter. Viewed 418 times. President Leonel Fernandez, called the community of Las Terrenas as the new "Monte Carlo of the Caribbean" during the opening ceremony of the Atlantic Tourist Boulevard in Catey, Las Terrenas, this week.
The work completed at a cost of US$ 151 million, was described by the president as the most beautiful pathway for the exotic beaches and breathtaking scenery of the bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
During the event, Fernandez, after receiving nine plaques of recognition from the nine communities in the province of Samana, in an unscheduled diplay of emotion took the microphone to express his thanks for the recognition of the community.
Fernandez said that according to a Puerto Rican named Emeterio Betances, Las Terrenas is among the three most beautiful areas in the world.
He also stated that in terms of natural beauty, Samaná is prettier than Monte Carlo.
The president said that his government has made great efforts to transform Samaná into a great tourist destination, which he said helps attract investment in tourism in this area.
The Atlantic Tourist Boulevard, 123 kilometers long and is joins Nagua- Sánchez- Cruce el Limón- El Limón- Cruce de Abragrande- Las Terrenas- Balatá and El Catey as well as a new link between the airport at El Catey and Las Terrenas.
The keynote speech was given by Public Works Minister Victor Díaz Rua, who stressed the importance of the work and effort made by the government to build and rehabilitate road networks in the country.
