Reports say that school and college attendance in Puerto Plata has barely reached ten percent.
National education authorities had previously warned parents of students that the new school year was starting on Tuesday Jan 10, so that they could take advantage of the educational time.
The Principal of General Gregorio Luperon School, Miguel Acevedo Bobadilla, said that attendance of students in his school has been low, but should be back to normal by the weekend.
Bobadilla urged parents to send their children to school so they could complete the full school year.
