Fire at Puerto Plata airport

The blaze which started in one of the duty-free shops, “La Choza” at approximately 3:30 in the early hours of the morning, swept through many of the other adjacent shops – totally destroying eight of them, apparently valued at around US$1 million each.
Firefighters who attended the raging fire took four hours to douse the flames.
The area is now off limits and business owners have been denied access to their former shops. Shop owners are demanding a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
It is not yet known how or who started the fire.
The airport was re-opened at 8:00 am this morning after safety checks were made and is said to be operating as normal.
