Five arrested in the midst of protests
posted on: Feb 2 2012 8:46 by RDugey. Viewed 12 times.At least five people were arrested yesterday amid violent protests that were conducted in the communities of Guazumal and Guanábano, the Tamboril municipality of Santiago, in claim settlement of streets and drinking water supplies.
A Guazumal and nearby areas were sent to members of the national police with firearms of high caliber, who threw tear gas at demonstrators.
The streets were blocked with burned tires, trunks of trees, stones and garbage contenededores.
The Tabor City Hall sent a mechanical shovel to remove the rubble, but the driver was set out to run off, because he was stoned by youths who supported the day.
Some protesters threw rocks at police officers and they in turn responded with tear gas and firing shotguns.
The President of the Board of neighbors of Guazumal, José Santana, gave a deadline of one week to u000athe authorities so that they have the repair of streets and to improve the service of drinking water, or otherwise protests will resume until there is a convincing answer.
