A press release from the Puerto Plata United Workers Federation (FUNTRAPP) a subsidiary of the Trade Union Confederation (CACS), which advises workers, said she was surprised that the Elliot family, major shareholders of Sun Village, want to evade their responsibilities regarding more than four hundred workers illegally suspended in September.
Resolution No. 923/2009, dated October 27, issued by the Director General of Labour, Mr. Andres Valentin Herrera, declares there is no reason for the suspension of work contracts by the Sun Village hotel, who had an occupancy level of 79.9%, while the workers, through their advisors and representatives demand by the Labour Court of the Judicial District of Puerto Plata, payment of employee benefits, compensation for lost wages and damages for more than RD $ 200,000 million pesos.
