The incident happened at a primary school, Angel Rosario in Monseor Nouel province.
Paredes said that initial investigations had suggested that the milk had not been stored in appropriate conditions.
The milk was long life UHT with an expiry date of August so appeared to present no problem. However, after drinking the milk, the students suffered nausea and diarrhoea, so they were immediately taken to the local medical center. By 6:00 that evening, only 2 children were still at the center, the rest having been sent home.
Paredes said he talked with executives at Dominican Dairies (Ladomir), the company that supplies the school milk. They expressed confidence that the milk had been properly packed and transported and suggested the storage on site was the problem.
Test results will be available in a few days.
