At the meeting it was agreed that Dominican prosecutors could be trained by the French Magisterial College in the areas of investigation and prosecution of complex crimes, like drug trafficking and money laundering. To that end, the French authorities will visit the country shortly to establish a mutual cooperation agreement as part of cooperative arrangements that were heralded last year between the presidents of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernndez, and France, Nicolas Sarkozy.
They agreed to turn the Dominican National School of Public Prosecutions into a regional center for training of prosecutors in Latin America and the Caribbean.
As part of the deal, Dominicans prosecutors will also receive training on cyber-crimes and cases of smuggling and trafficking.
The French High Court recognize the National School of Public Prosecutions of the Dominican Republic for its high standards of professionalism and for being the largest in Latin America.
Both the French Attorney General and Chief Justice emphasized the strengthening and revival of the Dominican-French relationship since the visit of the Dominican president.
