Fuel still going up - time to change your car?
posted on: Mar 1 2011 13:1 by The Reporter. Viewed 479 times.Fuel prices are continuing to creep up much to motorists’ displeasure. Beginning March 2011, a gallon of regular gasoline is now RD$ 180.80, up a further 4 pesos in just a week.

But don’t think this is just a local phenomenon.
In the US, gasoline prices rose 4 percent last week to a national average of $3.29 per gallon (equivalent to RD$ 123).
That’s the highest level ever for this time of year, when prices are typically low, and only around 30% cheaper than the DR.
In the UK, average petrol (gasoline) prices have passed the £1.30 a litre mark for the first time, equivalent to £5.91 per gallon (nearly £6!), or RD$361 per gallon! Poor Brits are paying twice as much for every gallon they put in their car.
And the outlook is not great for the future. With unrest in the Middle East and North Africa lifting the price of oil to the $100-a-barrel range, analysts say pump prices are likely headed higher.
When asked about fuel prices at a service station in Dallas (USA), Shaun DuFresne tapped the screen on the pump, showing he had just spent US$90.14 for diesel — at $3.50 a gallon — to fill his 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck. Then he said something unprintable.
Maybe now is a good time to sell your gas-guzzler and exchange it for an economic small car - but watch out for those potholes!

Digg it!
