German police chief announces more cooperation with DNCD

The Chief of Police of Germany, Jorg Ziercke, and his colleague, the Head of counter narcotics, Wolfgang Oegel, announced the implementation of joint strategies with the Dominican authorities to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. 
The program starts with the implementation of staff training programs and assistance to agencies including the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD).
Ziercke said the initiative is part of the international collaborative program to counter "the threat posed by drug trafficking and its ramifications, especially money laundering and violence."
"New situations and trends of criminal investigations mean police require new strategies and structural changes within our prosecution agencies," said the officer, who visited DNCD with the German ambassador, Cristian Germann.
The visitors met privately with General Rolando Rosado, President of the DNCD, with whom they discussed issues relating to the assistance the agency could receive in detecting the use of ships sailing from Dominican ports to carry drugs to Europe, especially Germany.
"The importance of cooperation between the DNCD and European agencies in combating drug trafficking has increased. The growing number of cases of drug trafficking to Europe bring the need to strengthen and expand the operational cooperation across borders and for international information exchange," he said.
Ziercke explained that these were the reasons behind opening an office for international cooperation in the German Embassy in Santo Domingo in 2008. The officer presented two vehicles and a considerable number of computers with accessories to equip the unit.
For his part, General Rosado praised the assistance of the German authorities and admitted that the country is still used as a bridge by international cartels, forcing the authorities to take joint action to combat the traffickers.
