Get more tourists, but spending remains unchanged

Average daily expenditure per foreign tourist in 2011 has been US$ 109, in an approximate stay of 8 nights; while non-resident Dominicans, representing the 13.3% of the total number of visitors, daily spend around US$ 44, and your average stay is 18 nights. This have been the constants while statistics indicate that they reach more visitors.

While the stay of foreign tourists is smaller in relation to non-residents, Dominicans his average in the country total expenditure is higher, in a relationship of US$ 872 9 nights from US$ 773 in 18 nights.

In agreement with these figures, the country perceived during the eneroñseptiembre $2,781.1 million for costs of tourists. This amount is added tax revenue in this period amounted to 3,947,067,846 by air and land departure tax and acquisition of the tourist card, representing 24.5 per cent of total of u000atariff revenue from the sector.

In the first nine months of the year Dominican Republic received 3,280,357 tourists, of which only 1.8 per cent entered by sea, according to the tourism sector economic statistics published by the Central Bank.

The quarter January-March was the increased flow of visitors, with a record of 1,256,767, which represents an increase of 2.9% compared to same period 2010.

In the second and third quarter of the year the flow of visitors decreased by 20% and 25%, respectively, in relation to the first three months of the year.

The arrival of passengers noresidentes reached in the month of October 2011, an increase of 7.52%, to receive the country 18,586 additional visitors compared to same month of the previous year, according to the latest report published by the Central Bank.

The increase is mainly due to the dynamism which continues to present the reception of tourists from America u000ato the South, by entering 93,243 additional visitors in absolute terms, with respect to same period of last year, for a variation of 41.70%.

Countries in the region that most increased its broadcast of tourists to Dominican Republic are Brazil (34,367), Argentina (26,880), Chile (8,495), Colombia (6,954), Peru (5,859) and Venezuela (4,653).

From North America ranked second, to join with 55,046 additional passengers, of which 88% came from United States.

The European continent continued presenting declines in absolute terms of 11,440 tourists, by falling mainly in the emission of tourists from Spain, England, and Portugal, due to the impact of the financial crisis. However countries like Russia (34,726), France (8,928), Italy (3,706), Germany (3,287) and Poland (2,152) increased their influx to the country, according to the report revealed official.

Tourist ships:
in the u000atourist ports of the country were received 100 ships with a total of 234,272 passengers.
Most of the foreign visitors who came to Dominican Republic by sea entered the ports of La Romana and Samana, while Santo Domingo became the 6.7% of the visitors and Puerto Plata did not receive any ship this year.

Increase in the flow
the total arrival of passengers to Dominican Republic during the first ten months of the year increased at a 3.6% compared to same period of 2010 and 8% in comparison with the 2009.

Passengers via air

the airport of Punta Cana received 1,846,943 tourists in the enero-octubre period, representing the 60.22% of the total number of tourists foreigners.

Las Américas airport, and Gregorio Luperon, Puerto Plata, presented a contribution of 21.58% and 9.52%, respectively.
