Growing production in controlled environment

Dominican Republic will be available this year from 6.6 million square metres to install greenhouses which produce vegetables under protected environment, informed the Ministry of agriculture.

The agricultural portfolio said that by 2012 is planned to install more than 600 thousand square meters and there is capacity to triple that amount installed in the country

In 2004 the surface of greenhouses was 269 thousand square meters, and the 2011 closed with an extension of 5,411 million meters, contributing to an increase in sustained production of vegetables and other items under environment protected.

Agriculture highlighted that since 2004 maintains a solid support to producers of vegetables in greenhouses, which allowed each year to add thousands of square meters to that mode of production.
