Haiti hit again by 6.1 earthquake

Tremors from the quake were also felt with less intensity in parts of the Dominican Republic at Mao, Nagua, Dajabn, Santiago Rodrguez, Bonao, Santiago, Moca, San Juan de la Maguana and Jiman close to the Haiti border, where aid workers were forced to leave the tents in which they were staying.
The quake struck at 6:03 am, (7:03 Dominican time), about 41 miles from Jacmel, 49 kilometers from Carrefour and 59 in Port au Prince.
The U.S. Geological Survey and the Seismological Institute of the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) reported that the quake was centered near latitude 18.4 degrees north and longitude 72.8 degrees West, 9.9 miles deep.
Since the catastrophic 7.3 quake on Tuesday 12 January, a further 300 aftershocks have occured, including around 47 which registered as higher than 4.0 in the Richter Scale.
The quake this morning is the most intense since to affect Haiti.
Jacmel started to receive aid on Monday via Dominican Navy ships sent from Pedernales on the Southern Coast.
Armed Forces Minister, Lieutenant General Pedro Rafael Pena Antonio, in charge of the operation to receive and distribute humanitarian aid to Haiti, ordered six naval vessels from the port of Cabo Rojo to Jacmel.
The ships arrived in the at Jacmel with 35 tons of supplies, while at the same time a fleet of light and heavy vehicles, including an ambulance equipped with medicines and equipment were sent by land.
Yesterday Jacmel authorities and members of the UN Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) buried in a common grave more than 400 Haitians who died during the earthquake.
A convoy of 62 vehicles under the coordination of the Armed Forces through the "Mano Amiga" operation left this morning to Jacmel.
The information was provided by Major General Hugo Rafael Gonzlez Borrell, mission coordinator, who said that at 2:00pm this afternoon they have scheduled another aid convoy to be sent to the Haitian victims.
General Gonzalez Borrell said the mission, was ordered by Dominican President Leonel Fernndez and is donating 130 thousand daily rations and 40 thousand portions raw to Haitian victims.
