The new Minister for Affairs of Haitians abroad, Daniel Suplice, noted that the Census will begin this year and that the same end of this month will travel to Santo Domingo and East of the country to inform students and Haitian workers the Government plans to.
Suplice added that the administration of President Michel Martelly wants to know exactly the number of Haitians living in Dominican Republic, with whose authorities should address the issue of the most serious way possible.
"How many are?" The figures vary: Haitians say that six hundred thousand; than a million Dominicans. u000a"We have to know," said Suplice to LISTÍN DIARIO.
"We want to give Haitians a letter from national in Dominican Republic identity and wherever they are," added the official.
Last December, Dominican authorities also announced the completion of a census of foreign residents in Dominican territory, with funding from the European Union and the technical support of the United Nations Population Fund (NIDI).
The first national survey of immigrants will be carried out in June of 2012 and will be in charge of the National Bureau of statistics (ONE) at a cost of nearly a million and a half dollars.
The last census of population in Dominican Republic was made last year and although the official results have not been given to know, the ONE announced in March of 2011 that the country has a population of 9.3 million inhabitants.
