Health warning on Chinese medicinal oil

The announcement was made by Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez, who urged people to refrain from using the product, and instructed pharmacies to remove packets from their shelves.
Public Health stated that it had began to make seizures of the product which is usually used by people for the relief of flu or muscle pain.
Rojas, who had returned to his duties after undergoing colonic surgery last week, said that " La Flecha" had been sold in the country for the past 2 years.
He explained that it is distributed in the country by "Casa El Oriental" whose owners had been notified of the withdrawal of the products and the closure of the company until investigations are completed.
He said that the product contains a substance which had caused one death a few years ago in Panama and that, with prolonged use, can lead to produce liver problems, kidney failure, stomach damage and lung damage.
He explained that during the weekend Dominican health authorities tested the product, after receiving a warning from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), that it is not suitable for medicinal use.
Rojas noted that the results of the first tests require further research to confirm the existence of other substances, especially diethylene glycol which is used as antifreeze.
