Horejs ensures that the European crisis does not affect cooperation

Dominican Republic, Irene Horejs, EU Ambassador said that the economic crisis facing Europe does not represent a threat to the development of programmes of cooperation with the country, at least until 2013.

He said that collaborative projects are provided in the Cotonou agreement which establishes long-term commitments that cannot be reversed.

"The financial protocol to the agreement is the tenth European Development Fund is a multi-year protocol runs from 2008 to 2013." "Next year we are going to enter into a new cycle of programming which I do not know yet the guidelines, but between now and 2013 there will be no changes," reiterated the diplomatic.

Horejs made the clarification during the opening ceremony of the European Union information point at the University O & M, running for about a year with the support of the Community Foundation, hope and international justice u000a(Funceji).

The rector of the O & M, Luis Abinader, said that space has become a window of information to the European Union, its operating mechanisms and their different economic and educational partnership with the country programmes, representing an opportunity for many young Dominicans.

He suggested holding a cycle of periodic conferences on different issues of today, especially in the current economic landscape and the mechanisms for cooperation with the countries of the region.

The President of the Funceji, Cristhian Jiménez, pointed out that the Info Centre of the European Union will directly impact on a population of approximately 30,000 students attending the University, as well as 500 students of the Liceo Experimental O & M, and highlighted that approximately 800 people have visited the area since May of this year.

Ambassador noted that European cooperation with the country u000aeducation it has been constant and stressed that it is currently developing the third programme of educational support in the country. The diplomatic noted that the European Union has collaborated with the Ministry of education in the design and implementation of the ten-year Plan, in the drafting of the institutional budget and in the implementation of the tracking system has been integrated into the national development strategy.

It noted that the Commonwealth has supported technical training in the country, with the opening of several laboratories in secondary schools and colleges makes it about a year, the decentralization of national education and training of teachers.
