Hospital Robert Reid has been involved 89 children from the heart

About 89 children with heart disease have been operated on in the programme of paediatric Cardiovascular Surgery in the hospital Infantil Robert Reid Cabral, Center where each year receive 150 children needing to be operated from the heart.

Performed surgery seven have been open heart and 82 closed to mostly correct problems of patent ductus arteriosus outside the heart in patients ages of two months of birth until the 17 years.

The program started about a year ago and so far made four to five weekly surgeries and for next year to be between one and two open heart month to dispose of the high demand. It is estimated that for every thousand births between six and eight have pathology cardiaca.

The details of the results of the cardiovascular surgery program were offered by the director of the hospital, Dr. Emilio Mena Castro and Dr. Maritza Lopez Mateo, u000aresponsible for service of Cardiology Center.

They explained that to carry out such interventions and diagnostic procedures hospital has latest equipment, and a modern surgical unit installed with the support of the Ministry of public health and the Office of the first lady.

The service has a modern unit of catheterization and a new team of Echocardiogram.
