IDSS social security in imminent danger of collapse
posted on: Oct 12 2010 21:4 by Royston. Viewed 649 times. The Dominican Institute of Social Security (IDSS) will be unable to function if it does not receive it's Government funding immediately.

The Director of IDSS, Dr. Sabino Baez Garcia is reported in the media as having met with President Fernandez to stress the urgency of the situation. The institution is apparently in dire need of the supplementary budget allocation of RD$400 million, plus the monthly allowance which has not been paid for the past three months.
The services under threat include health services, childcare facilities and health centers across the country.
An official, who asked not to be named, is reported as saying "in the IDSS there is not a single cent to even buy a ream of paper, nor to buy drugs, nor to pay the obligations we have with our suppliers."
Last week the head of the IDSS said that they had only enough cash for three days payments to workers.
