The maternity unit at Nuestra Seora de la Altagracia, which specializes in premature births, suffered two deaths of newborn babies last Friday, seven on Saturday and seven more on Sunday.
However the unit continues to work normally and there have been no more deaths since last Sunday.
The results of the investigations are expected in a few days.
The director of the Maternity unit, Juan Cid Troncoso said that since the death of the first children, the hospital had adopted preventive measures that included the participation of epidemiologists from the Ministry of Health, which has control of the situation.
