Investigations into gas sales fraud paralysed

Viewed 118 times. The lack of technicians from the Department for Standards and Quality Systems (DIGENOR) has resulted in paralysis of the inspection of gas stations suspected of fraud. This was reported by Altagracia Paulino, the director of the National Institute of Protection of Consumer Rights (Proconsumidor).
Paulino said that inspections must be performed by technicians from both institutions, but despite a formal request by letter, as required DIGENOR director, Julio Santana, she has not had co-operation from DIGENOR. As a consequence of this, there is now a backlog of consumer complaints against filling stations which have not been investigated. Paulino said that complaints were piling up, with ten new lodged on Thursday alone.
Paulino added that, apart from the problems with gas stations, PROCONSUMIDOR is following up on complaints about irregularities in contracts for real estate, selling overpriced products at markets and the recovery of ten percent on the cost of goods when the sale occurs through so called "deliveries." The Director was speaking at a meeting of the National Federation of Retail Traders (Fernacodep) held to discuss the trade situation.
