Israeli left manifests

Hundreds of Israelis marched yesterday in Tel Aviv against the latest "anti-democratic laws" adopted by Parliament at a ceremony convened by organizations political and social left.

Some protesters carried red flags, they chanted slogans such as "Israel is not Iran" report means premises.

Shalom Ahjsav, the largest pacifist country, organization and the left-wing Meretz Party convened the March, which began on the Boulevard Rothschild, birthplace of the protest of the indignant.

According to the organizers, the "demonstration for democracy" is the first of a series of protests against what they see as a battery of initiatives which violate the freedom of expression in Israel. The last one, last night approved in first reading with 42 votes in favour and 31 against, elevates the economic demand of compensation for defamation of 50,000 shekels ($13,400) 300,000 ($80,400), without having to prove u000athat has been damaged. The initiative, which happened because the coalition Government imposed discipline of vote, is perceived in the journalistic field as a tool to curb the revelations journalistic.

At the same meeting, the Parliament adopted at first reading another law, which affects the composition of the Committee that elects the members of the Supreme Court.
