The Centre for Development and Industrial Competitiveness (PROINDUSTRIA) reported that potential investors from the Marche and Rome regions had been contacted in a recent visit to Italy by the director of PROINDUSTRIA, Professor Jose Izquierdo.
In advance of the visit to Dominican Republic by the Italians, Izquierdo signed a memorandum of understanding with managers of footwear business associations in Fermo and Macerata provinces who are interested in transforming and re-launching the industry.
Izquierdo said further that PROINDUSTRIA has already created the Footwear Industry Rescue Project, which includes a pilot project in the northern region (Cibao Central), where a group of manufacturers from Santiago, Moca, San Francisco de Macoris and the capital, would design and produce three to five different styles of shoes, with the idea of creating a national brand.
