Lack of quorum blocks approval of REFIDOMSA sale

The sale of 49% shares in REFIDOMSA, the Dominican oil refinery, is still beset by problems.

After many delays and excuses, the deal was finally signed by the Venezuelan and Dominican governments, however it now needs to be ratified by Congress. This final step was denied on Thursday as there were insufficient Senators present for a quorum to be established.

Senate president Reinaldo Pared set a date of next  Tuesday 29th, at 3:00 pm to deal with the contract for the sale of Refidomsa, as well as other pending business.

It is not clear whether the poor showing was a deliberate act of protest by opponents of the sale or just a lazy day for senators.

The only members of the house who turned up were Reinaldo Pared Pérez, Cristina Lizardo, Wilton Guerrero, Francisco Domínguez Brito, Prin Pujals, Félix Vásquez, Dionis Sánchez, Rubén Darío Cruz and Jesús Vásquez.
