LADOM milk withdrawn from schools, again

After all the problems earlier this year, and a subsequent clean bill of health for all milk suppliers with contracts for school meals, LADOM's products have been withdrawn from school contracts for the rest of the year.
Minister of Education, Melanio Paredes, today announced the exclusion of  flavored UHT milk from Lcteos Dominicanos (LADOM) because of the "serious problem of credibility and security" that is being generated in the school population, where dozens of children have been  affected again this week.

In referring to a statement to be published tomorrow, Paredes said the company does not offer credible guarantees for the health of children, "whose condition is particularly vulnerable and requires special attention, when families entrust us with their care in schools."

The LADOM company supplies an average of 600 000 daily portions for the school breakfast.
The decision came before the discovery of new cases of health problems in school children at San Pedro de Macoris, after drinking flavored LADOM milk
The Education Minister explained that in the San Francisco de Ass school in San Pedro de Macoris, 12 children suffered nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. El Puerto school in Los Llanos said  six of their pupils were affected, as were three at the Mara Nicolasa Billini school.

He said that LADOM milk will be replaced by fortified juice for the rest of the year.
He stressed that in cases of schools receiving pasteurized milk from other companies, they would continue normal supply, given that this product has not so far shown to cause any problems.
