Twenty laptop computers disappeared from a secure warehouse in the Punta Caucedo freight terminal in the Las Americas International airport near Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic this week.

The robbery, police said, occurred in the number 10 holding area of the loading terminal at the Cabo Caucedo old airport where there are large quantities of goods in transit stored.

According to the police version, intruders entered the warehouse where the computers were stored by removing a zinc plate in the roof of the warehouse, whereupon they entered the ware house and took the computers.

Police say that the stolen laptop computers were sent by a private company whose name was not released from the U.S. and the company had all the relevant paperwork from customs (Aduanas).

Apparently, the 20 stolen computers were the latest models, built in 2011 and had an estimated value of US1500 on the local market.

Yesterday members of the Scientific Police (Policía Científica) conducted investigations into the case by taking details on footprints left by the thieves on desks and windows after having entered the warehouse.

In addition, police searched several cameras operating in the warehouse which would have been able to take pictures of the criminals when they came to do the robber.

Police also questioned more than 15 employees and workers in the warehouse and the company responsible for the importation of the stolen goods.

In addition to the two employees are under investigation, private guards responsible for the security of the warehouse and several members of the Special Airport Security Corps service in the area.

In addition to the police investigating the case, members of the Intelligence Department of Customs and airport security are also involved.

Later in the day, police and customs intelligence officers conducted several raids accompanied by judicial authorities in the area of Caleta and Boca Chica, looking for those responsible for the theft.
