In the week where the government has undertaken to settle its debt with the electricity generators by March 26, CDEEE is pushing for its customers to do likewise.
He reported that a significant proportion of municipalities, specifically the smaller ones, and eight governors, owe a total of RD$4 billion in electric bills.
He noted that the councils receive 8 percent of the national budget for electricity but do not meet their payment obligations with energy distributors.
The CDEEE executive vice president deplored this behavior from the town councils and governors, noting "that to steal electricity is threatening the country's future."
