Local art exhibition is a hit!

Last Friday’s (31 Oct) opening night of the ‘Contraste’ exhibition in Puerto Plata was a hit with local residents. Art aficionados from all over the North Coast turned up to view the paintings, photographic works, drawings and graffiti art all created by local and affiliated international artists.
Among the artists featured are Verónica Agostini, Patricio López, Carlos Scott Wilson, Víctor Belen, Teddy Tejeda, Juan María Castillo, Dionicio Henríquez, Leo Díaz, Uvaldo Corona, Máximo A. Soto, Ricardo Fleuraguste, Salomón Santos, Eric Franco and Juan José García.
For many local residents, the exhibition was the first opportunity to see works of this standard from local artists and enjoy the cultural atmosphere, mingling with others in the artistic environment.
Although, there have been other exhibitions and events during the year, very often the organizers assume that the thousands of foreign residents will not be interested and don’t publicize the events, relying instead on word-of-mouth.
However, some organisers are becoming aware that many foreigners do enjoy Dominican culture and appreciate the opportunity to get involved.
If you haven’t yet visited, get down there this week as the exhibition finishes on November 15th. It’s located at the Casa de Cultura next to Parque Central in Puerto Plata, so easy to find and is open 6 days, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
