London calls for investigation of possible irregularities in Russian election

The British Government yesterday asked that are investigated "a fast and transparent way" alleged irregularities during the elections held Sunday in Russia, which won the match of Vladimir Putin.

In a statement, the Secretary of State of the Foreign Ministry, David Lidington, said that the report prepared by the international observers of the OSCE, which identifies violations of the electoral process, they stress the need for a search.

"Its conclusions underline the need for that alleged electoral violations be investigated rapidly and transparently and be sure that all the democratic institutions as a means of communication, civil society and the political opposition can operate freely in Russia," declared.

The Mission of international observers of the OSCE and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) have denounced numerous irregularities during the scrutiny of the u000aparliamentary elections on Sunday in Russia.

"The quality of the election process deteriorated considerably during the scrutiny, which was characterized by frequent violations of procedure and cases of apparent manipulation, including serious indications of mass introduction of ballots at the polls", says the report.

According to the official count, Russia United (UK), the Party of Vladimir Putin, won an absolute majority in the Duma or lower House of Russian Parliament with 49.3 percent of the votes or 238 seats, 77 less than four years ago.
