LPG testing suspended

Viewed 80 times. The director of the National Institute of Protection of Consumer Rights (ProConsumidor), Altagracia Paulino, reported today that inspections of LPG stations hve been suspended. He is awaiting certification of the meters used in testing by two ISO technicians arriving in the country tomorrow.
Paulino said last night that agreement came in a meeting with representatives of the gas bottling plants who accused ProConsumidor and DIGENOR of using outdated meters. The meeting came after several plants were closed for allegedly short changing customers.
Paulino said he had offered an amnesty stating that no-one would be imprisoned in the immediate future, but that after April 30th prosecutions would begin. The owners of the plants had rejected the amnesty proposal he made to them, saying that if they accepted an amnesty, they would be admitting they were thieves.
He said they agreed that ProConsumidor will seek international ISO certification of the testing meters to remove any allegations about a lack of accuracy in results.
He noted that the culture of deceit in the industry has generated a crisis of credibility, but guaranteed ProConsumidor will continue working to prevent frauds in the sale of LPG.
