Jos Arturo Lugo Gonzlez, who had two other identities, was one of nine men wanted by police in connection with the robbery. He was one of the guards on duty at Scotiabank, in Santiago, when RD$5,385,000 and US$22,500 was stolen.
Police broke into a bed and breakfast located in number 45, J Street, El Liceo in Andres, Boca Chica, where they found the suspect together with RD$1 million buried in the floor under the bed where he slept. The Police also confiscated all the guards belongings from the room.
Lugo Gonzlez said the robbery was planned by him and a companion who had taken half the money. He said he had not seen his partner since the robbery and had no idea where he was. He told reporters he was carrying three cards with the same birth date, which he used to avoid detection as he moved around the country.
Police said that Lugo Gonzlez had been discovered through intelligence received by the Department of Monetary Crime headed by General Polanco Gomez, who gave the information to the director general of police in the province of Santo Domingo, Hector Garcia Cuevas.
