Martelly says will promote balance between Haiti and RD

Viewed 130 times.The President of Haiti, Michel Martelly, yesterday told LISTÍN DIARIO that their priority over Dominican Republic is to promote a balance between the two Nations, so that it is the island, and not every country, which is ultimately benefit in that process.
Martelly noted that just as the Dominican Government help Haiti to "balance" in the relations existing in the Hispaniola, in the same way his Government finds this objective for the good of both countries.
"Maintain the balance between Dominican Republic and Haiti is important," said the President. Martelly chatted with LISTÍN DIARIO to his departure from the opening ceremony of the new session of the Haitian Parliament. The ruler, who was sworn in on May 14 last year and spent five months without Prime Minister, delivered a half-hour speech to legislators. As an example of the need for a balance on the island, Martelly u000aHe said the cholera epidemic in his country has caused the deaths of nearly 7,000 people, five times more than in Dominican territory. "If in Haiti we have a disease, this is not good for Dominican Republic", said the ruling. Martelly and his Dominican counterpart Leonel Fernandez will launch on Wednesday a plan to strengthen its strategy against the epidemic which broke out in Haitian territory in mid-October 2010.
Martelly will not travel to Santo Domingo, as reported this week the Dominican Ministry of health, and instead will inaugurate the program simultaneously from Port-au-Prince. Common strategies to be implemented both Governments include, improving access to safe drinking water through chlorination of the liquid, and intensification of prevention throughout the island campaigns. The plan also envisages strengthening the safe handling of excreta and solid waste, evaluate the use of vaccines anticólera of oral administration by u000ameans of pilot projects and ensure clinical care and treatment of quality establishments of health
"I want to thank the Government of President Leonel Fernández its willingness to cooperate for a better Haiti for the island," said Martelly at the end of the ceremony at the temporary seat of Parliament.
The ruler mentioned University who built the Dominican State in the community of Limonade, 15 kilometres to the South of Cap-Haïtien, the second city of Haiti, and both leaders will open this Thursday, the same day in which Haitians recall two years of the devastating earthquake that left about 300,000 dead, one million three hundred thousand victims and damage by 7.9 billion $.
The University was built with the contribution of the Dominican private sector and with an investment of 30 million dollars.
