Mechanical failure ruled out in death crash

Lt. Col. Rafael Tejeda Baldera, commander of the Accident Investigation Department of AMET, explained that examination of the vehicle salvaged from the sea had revealed that the tires were all intact, eliminating a blow out from the possible causes. He went on to say there was also no evidence of a broken guide rod as had been suggested in some media reports. The conclusions of the preliminary investigation were that the cause of the tragedy would likely be found to be human error.
Early reports in local media had suggested that a passenger claimed the driver had suffered a heart attack before the accident, but there is no confirmation of this from the authorities.

The officer explained AMET would be carrying out further investigations to determine the speed the bus was travelling when it plunged into the sea near Kilometre marker 11.
So far, 11 fatalities have been confirmed and 15 injured.
