Metaldom opens window for Trinidad & Tobago

Complex metallurgical Dominicano (Metaldom) and the multinational Severstal North America, the fourth company of the world's largest United States, industry came together to sign a memorandum of understanding with a view to carry out a feasibility study for the establishment of a complex steel in the area known as La Brea, Trinidad & Tobago.

Agreement was signed with the national company of Gas from Trinidad & Tobago (CNG), of the local conglomerate Neal and Massy holdings, and the National Corporation of energy (CNE), which gave the information through a press release that echoed press such as Reuters and Digital Journal, Sys-con.com and trinidadexpress.com agencies. La Brea is one of the areas of greatest industrial potential of the island.

The complex will be the construction of direct reduction and/or pellets or pieces cut in hot iron. The plant will have a nominal capacity of 1.5 million of u000atonnes per year and the integration of a steel mill with a nominal production capacity of up to 300,000 metric tons a year of steel billets. The whole project has an estimated cost of more than $600 million.

The integrated installation goes to the location at the Industrial polygon of the Union, La Brea generate 3,500 jobs indirect during construction and 400 jobs permanent.

Arthur Lok Jack, President of Neal and Massy, said he is satisfied with the facilitating role played by the National Gas Company and the national energy to bringing to fruition the memorandum of understanding and said that this was a very good sign for investors.
