Missing Canadian found alive and well

The case of the Canadian who apparently disappeared from Sosua several weeks ago was resolved with better than expected results.

46 year-old D'Aarcy Wright who lived in Sosua and had recently taken over running a Sosua Property rental management company was found alive and well in a Boca Chica Hotel last week.

Wright told police he was kidnapped on December 9th at gunpoint from his home in Sosua and drugged and knocked unconscious. He says he was released two weeks later 170 miles away from where he was abducted, but is unsure of exactly what happened over the past two weeks due to the drugs.

Local residents and staff at his business became concerned soon after his disappearance and notified police and the media. Canadian press picked up on the story, and some of Wright's relatives flew to the Dominican Republic to assist in the search. Even a representative from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police traveled to the Island to assist.

Wright now alleges he thinks he was the victim of a mistaken identity and that the kidnappers let him go when they realized that he was not the person they wanted.

According to the latest story from the Canadian newspaper, The Spectator, local police have now closed the case as he was found safe and sound.

"He went to visit a friend at another city and he didn't let his family know that he was doing that," Sergeant Bernaldo Cabrera told a Spanish interpreter hired by The Spectator.

D'Arcy's brother, Todd Wright, who flew to the DR to look for him, says he stands by his brother's story.

Patricia Suzuki, Wright's sister, said she's not surprised to hear the investigation is closed.

"To them, well, he's fine," she said. "They weren't that interested in following the facts and following any leads that we had to begin with. It was Todd and the others that were doing it, so it doesn't surprise me."

Friend Rick Johnson said if there is credence to the mistaken identity story, he doesn't think Wright has anything more to worry about.

He said he was puzzled as to why Wright's belongings were not taken, but his friend later showed him how his money and bank card had been hidden in his shoe.

The rumor is this was a big scam set up by Mr Wright. I've heard he was struggling with the business he bought, Sosua Property, and faked his kidnapping so he could skip back to Canada and avoid paying the rest of the money he owed. Anyone know any more on this?
