The “Hotel Pedernal,” a community-owned hotel situated in the southwest city of Pedernales, has been completely renovated thanks in large part to the financial support provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The hotel is managed by the Foundation for the Integral Development of the Community of Pedernales (FUNDACIPE).
In all, the 13-room hotel offers nine double rooms and four suites; a café-terrace; restaurant; laundry area, meeting room for 30 people equipped with audiovisual equipment; an information center and a souvenir shop.
The renovation included improvement to the existing infrastructure, the construction of a cafeteria, the renovation of the building’s electrical system and internal plumbing, as well as the furnishing and decoration of all rooms.
The hotel is part of the project “Promotion of Sustainable Development in the Province of Pedernales.”
The project also includes a special center that offers information on the natural resources of the area southwest region of the Dominican Republic.
The province of Pedernales is situated in the extreme south of the border shared by the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
It is 335 miles southwest from the capital city of Santo Domingo.
It is famous for its pristine beaches and breathtaking scenery. Its natural beauty has been impacted little by the tourism industry.
