More drugs found on banana boat
posted on: Mar 30 2010 9:13 by Royston. Viewed 943 times.The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) found another 34 packages of cocaine, making 62 in total, sealed inside containers on the ship they have been searching in the Port of Manzanillo, Montecristi.

The operation has so far seen four arrests including Colombian, Dominican and Belgian nationalities.
Maj. Gen. Rolando Rosado Mateo, president of the DNCD, identified the detainees, Sparta Reklino, Juancito Hiciar Blanco, Jos Juan Cabral Cerda and Francisco Humberto Camino Prez. Mateo said Perez was arrested previously in 2005 for possession of 76 kilos of pure cocaine.
As well as the drugs, officers have seized communications equipment and weapons.
The operation was the culmination of an effort by USA, Colombian and Belgian Authorities after the ship, Summer Wind, had been monitored for over 2 weeks traveling between Colombia, Belgium and
The DNCD spokesman said the agency had also raided several properties on the Copey-Manzanillo road, without giving any further details.
Yesterday the country's banana producers belonging to the Dominican Association of Banana Producers (Adobanano) and Clster de Banano, dissociated themselves from the drug shipment seized in the two containers brought in by ship.
Victor Pena and Elso Jaquez, presidents of these institutions denounced the actions of the individuals responsible and said they were concerned about the situation as some 110 thousand boxes of bananas due for export to Britain and Europe were at risk of being lost.
