The 58 year-old victim, Máximo Bienvenido Cabrera, was shot in the head by another security guard, Juan Santos, aged 50, who was immediately arrested by the Police for investigation. Both men work for the same security company, Servicios de Protección Privada (SEPROSA).
The shooting took place at 8:30 am causing other local businesses close the branch location on the corner of Calle San Felipe and Professor Juan Bosch, to suspend work for several hours.
Witnesses to the shooting say that a bitter argument arose when Cabrera objected to Santos washing his moto in the parking lot of BHD, which quickly escalated into the fatal violent act.
BHD executives refused to talk to local media about the incident on the basis that the case was being investigated by the National Police.

However, a close relative of the victim who refused to identify himself said that Cabrera and Santos have not been on good terms with each other for some time, but could not say why they had fallen out.
Cabrera's body was sent by the medical examiner to Puerto Plata’s Miguel Batista Ricardo Limardo hospital morgue, while Santos was taken by police for questioning.
