Celso Marranzini did not reveal the amount of investment, but said the new generator would increase the country's electricity supply and sell power at lower prices, as part of a plan to change the mix of generating systems.
"For reasons of prudence we prefer to keep quiet about the identity of the investors, the companies they represent and the amount of investment, but said the project is viable and there is interest in developing it. I promise that information will flow," explained Marranzini, who visited the area in Santiago after receiving the monthly report of performance of the North Generating Company (Edenorte).
Marranzini and Marketing Director of CDEEE, Maribel Fernndez, discussed with investors their interest in building a plant in the shortest time, taking advantage of the climate of confidence which, from their point of view, is perceived in the electricity sector.
The CDEEE vice-president explained that in the coming four years the country could have nearly 2,000 megawatts of natural gas power generation, part of the 2010-2016 strategic plan, "where the energy matrix will be diversified with gas and coal to reduce the cost of power generation and meet the demands expected in the country.
The new power plant would be built on CDEEE land in the community of Pepillo Salcedo.
