A capo of drug trafficking with operations in Dominican Republic, as well as Maryland and New York, pleaded guilty on Wednesday of trafficking in heroin and tax fraud money-laundering.

Steven Blackwell pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin, laundering money and defrauding the State in a federal court in Baltimore. His trial was scheduled to start the week next.

If the Court accepts his statement, he convicted to 20 years in prison in January.

Prosecutors accused Blackwell of 27 years of leading a drug trafficking operation in New York, Maryland and Dominican Republic since 2003. With his accomplices laundered money by buying lottery tickets, casino chips, luxury items and properties roots.

Police say that Blackwell detonated an era of violence in Baltimore, with a shootout in 2009 in which ten people were injured.
