Vice Admiral Homero Luis Lajara Sol said the trips were thwarted at Baoba del Pial, in Mara Trinidad Snchez, Saman, Snchez, Puerto Plata and Barahona. He reported a total of 32 arrests and the recovery of a minibus, rowboats, and tanks of gasoline.
The events were described at a press conference at the headquarters of M-2 Intelligence, headed by the official spokesman of the Navy, Captain Juan Bienvenido Crisstomo Martnez.
Among those arrested were Mximo Paulino Capelln and Jos Antonio Paredes, whom the Navy described as "two leading organizers of illegal trips to Puerto Rico."
Capelln was arrested in Sanchez while transporting several people and two gallons of gasoline on board a minibus headed to a local beach.
The officer said Paredes was arrested in Puerto Plata, along with two others when they attempted to steal a boat at a resort.
The operations were led by the head of the Intelligence Service M-2, Rear Admiral Gustavo Betances Hernndez.
Vice Admiral Lajara Sol said the twelve people arrested on the boat Caribbean Pride were captured after the ship was intercepted by a Naval speedboat about 12 Nautical miles offshore. He ordered that those arrested were brought from Barahona to the offices of M-2 where they were questioned.
The Navy reported that in recent weeks it has detained dozens of people who have tried to travel to Puerto Rico in small boats equipped with high power engines.
