Navy seizes boat with over US$1 million in cash

Vice Admiral Homero Luis Lajara Sol reported that the cash will be delivered to the Director General of Customs for confiscation and identified the suspects as Ismael King Almeida and Felipe Encarnacin Paredes.
The seizure took place in the area known as Cabo Cabron, Samana province and, in addition to the Navy, the operation involved members of the Coast Guard of the United States, the Dominican Air force, the intelligence service and the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD).
The two Dominicans were sailing from Puerto Rico on board the "Dabian", a 24 feet boat with an outboard engine, according to Lajara Sol through his spokesman, Captain Juan Bienvenido Crisstomo Martnez.
The Navy reported that since the vessel came from Puerto Rico, the Coast Guard of the United States on the island, contacted the Dominican authorities who intercepted the ship.
Lajara Sol ordered the intelligence chief of M-2, Captain Luis Manuel Fliz Jos, to oversee investigations into the case and with other officers, deliver to the Customs, the packages of dollars.
The Navy confirmed on Sunday that the money seized from the two Dominicans amounted to US$1,269,416.
