“The bank is talking to new investors who are interested in investing in Puerto Plata,” said Llibre. “I know there are investors with plans to purchase land adjacent to the Playa Dorada resort, some 12 million square meters that once belonged to the closed sugar cane mill in Montellano.”
The tourism businessman said that this area would be suited perfectly for two or three golf courses, a marina, hotels and other real estate projects, which are the main projects that can give a boost to Puerto Plata and the North Coast.
With regard to efforts being made to boost tourism in the area, the head of Asonahores said that the renovation of the hotel industry in the main destination of the North Coast is being done and as a result of that ownership transfers are being made with regard to important properties in Puerto Plata.
He also stated that although Luperón has lagged behind in road links, eventually it will be incorporated as an additional destination. With that in mind, Llibre demanded a greater promotion of Puerto Plata and the North Coast, with the aim of bringing in more tourists to fill the hotels not only during the high season, but throughout the year.
