North Coast hotels report high occupancy

Casoni said the key factor in the increase has been the working together of the hotels on the North Coast along with the Ministry of Tourism to "capture new niche markets that are bringing in a greater flow of tourists."
"We are hopeful that this influx of tourists, mainly from Canada, will continue for a long time, because this way our industry will continue to strengthen for the benefit of the North Coast."
Casoni said that the hotels are located along the Cabarete to Luperon stretch are prepared for the comfort of tourists, and trained to offer the best quality services to "our foreign visitors."
The hotels in Playa Dorada, Marapé, Cofresi and Maimon recorded excellent occupancy rates, suggested Casoni, indicating that the advertising being done abroad has, "begun to bear fruit in favoring tourism in Puerto Plata."
The Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort hotel in Cofresi has the highest rate with a reported 100% occupancy rate.
Other hotels such as Oasis Marien, Iberostar Costa Dorada, Puerto Plata Barcelo, Gran Ventana, Blue Bay Villas Doradas, RIU, Puerto Plata Allegro, Lifestyle Tropical, Great Paradise, Puerto Plata Village and Casa Marina, report between 80 and 90 percent occupancy.
To these figures, we need to take into account that around 3,000 hotel rooms in 11 hotels were closed during 2010 and 2011.
